Google Ads took 8 years to come true

After first announcing it in 2017, Google Photos' fence removal feature has only recently been made a reality.

Back in 2017 at I/O, just months after the first Pixel was released, Google Photos demoed a technology that promised to remove the barriers in photos. Nine generations later, with the help of AI, the phone can now do exactly what the company advertised.

By removing the occlusion and restoring the obscured part of the photo, the technology can smoothly remove objects. New Google devices like the Pixel 10 Pro use advanced Gemini AI, allowing users to edit with voice or simple descriptions.

Previously, Google Photos had a Magic Editor feature that did this to some extent, but compared to professional editing tools like Photoshop, the results were sometimes not perfect. The feature supports quick photo editing, but still does not completely fix errors such as blurring and blurry areas.

According to 9to5Google , in theory, this would be the bare minimum of this technology. The author believes that Gemini AI will continuously learn from the user and become better at recognizing specific obstacles.

Other companies like Samsung with Object Eraser on the Galaxy line or Apple with Photo Clean Up in the planning stage also do a pretty good job of removing objects. Professional users can use Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Firefly, which are supported on both phones and computers.

What sets Google apart is the integration of its powerful chatbot, which makes it easy to use with just words or language. Users can access this feature in the Ask Photos section. The limitation is its popularity, as it is currently only available in the US, on the Pixel 10 Pro.

Despite taking eight years to realize a major leap in photography technology, many users expressed excitement when Ask Photos finally launched. With this technology, the Pixel line continues to define the ability to capture, analyze and edit right on a smartphone.
