Many diners in Ho Chi Minh City said they were in a difficult situation when they suddenly discovered that their familiar restaurants, which had always been flexible with payment methods, suddenly stopped accepting bank transfers and only accepted cash. In fact, there were restaurants that did not post a sign saying "no bank transfers", but when customers wanted to pay by this method, the restaurant owner or staff would directly notify them.
Surprised that the restaurant does not accept bank transfers
A few days ago, Ms. DL (26 years old, living in District 10) stopped by a familiar noodle shop on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street (District 3) for breakfast. Because she subjectively thought that the shop accepted money transfers, she did not bring her wallet. After finishing her meal, she did not see the QR code for money transfers posted on the wall by the shop owner like before, so she approached the shop owner and asked for the account number to transfer money. However, the shop owner told her: "The shop has not accepted money transfers for about a week now, if you do not have cash, you can pay next time." Because she was embarrassed, she said she wanted to pay right away and learn from her mistakes next time, but the shop owner shook his head and refused.
Many people choose to eat at restaurants for convenience and to save time.

"Because the restaurant did not accept money transfers, I had to leave and promised to bring cash to pay next time. I used to think that such situations were only seen on social media or in the press, but I never expected to experience them myself. The next day, even though I didn't really crave noodles, I still stopped by to deposit the money because I was afraid of being labeled as having a long-term debt," Ms. L. shared.

The owner of this restaurant shared: "I am temporarily not accepting money transfers from customers because I am in the process of completing business-related procedures. I will soon re-add the QR code to make it easier for customers to transfer money, in line with the habits of many young people today. During this time, whenever customers have questions, I ask for their understanding and say I will accept money transfers again soon."
Mr. HAT (31 years old, in Go Vap District) also encountered a similar situation. Mr. T. said: "That day, after jogging, I stopped by a noodle shop on Nguyen Thai Son Street to eat. I didn't have any cash with me, and after finishing eating, I found out that the shop no longer accepted money transfers. I had to run home to get money to pay the shop owner even though the shop had previously accepted money transfers normally," Mr. T. said.
Sidewalk sales also do not accept bank transfers
Living in an apartment building in Ho Chi Minh City, Danh Dang (32 years old) often jogs every afternoon, then buys familiar street food to enjoy in the evening. Usually when participating in sports activities, he only brings his elevator card and phone to be compact.
That is also the reason why when buying food after jogging, he often chooses to transfer money. However, in recent days, this food truck suddenly announced that it only accepts cash, not bank transfers. Accordingly, a notice is posted on the front of the truck, clearly stating: "From the 20th, no bank transfers will be accepted."

"I was also quite surprised! Luckily, because the shop is below my apartment, I can go up to get the money and then come down to buy. However, it is quite inconvenient. With digital transformation, most shops are flexible with the forms of money transfer, but there are also shops that have gone backwards," he said.
According to Mr. Danh Dang, in the past, he only read in the newspaper that there were restaurants that did not accept money transfers, but now he has personally "experienced" it. He also said that he will pay attention to bringing cash when he intends to shop or eat in the future to avoid falling into awkward situations.
The owner of this food truck said that for various reasons, the restaurant recently decided not to accept money transfers. He also said that sometimes money transfers can be a hassle.
"Someone bought a 9,000 VND duck egg and also transferred money, doing small business for a few coins, receiving cash is more convenient, nothing more," the seller shared.
