On August 27, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) in the Pokrovsk direction had achieved a major victory; after capturing the Leontovichi bridgehead, on the southern outskirts of Donetsk, the RFAF had completed control over the village of Udachne. The northern part of the village, including Shiroka Street, was overrun by Russian troops.

Thus, the RFAF has completed control of a section of the Kotlino-Udachnoye highway west of Pokrovsk. Currently, the Russian troops are advancing to the village of Molodetskoye. This is the westernmost village of Donetsk Oblast on the Pokrovsk sector of the front. Immediately after Molodetskoye is Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

In order to reorganize its defense, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) were forced to withdraw from the urban settlement of Mezhova in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, about 12 km from the border with Donetsk Oblast. Mezhove is currently a major AFU logistics center, providing the main supply for the AFU forces stationed in Pokrovsk.

Meanwhile, fighting in the area of the city of Pokrovsk is intensifying, as Russian troops destroyed an AFU Leopard tank, which was firing directly at high-rise buildings in Pokrovsk, where a small group of Russian troops were believed to be hiding. Video of this battle, appeared on the Internet.
5.jpg
The released video shows that the Leopard 2 tank was attacked by an FPV UAV. It is reported that the entire crew of the combat vehicle was killed. Through the video, it can be seen that the fighting in the city of Pokrovsk is very fierce, not as the Ukrainian media announced, that only "a small group of Russian troops" entered the city and were destroyed by AFU.
6.jpg
It is worth noting that the situation in Pokrovsk is currently deteriorating rapidly for the AFU, as the RFAF has firmly entrenched itself in residential areas and is actively sending additional forces into the city via the Leontovichi-Troyanda bridgehead south of the city.
5.jpg
Military experts note that the current situation in the city of Pokrovsk is very similar to the previous battle for Selidovo, when the Ukrainian media also reported that “everything was fine”, but then the city fell quickly.
13.jpg
It should be recalled that Pokrovsk is called by many military experts as a “key fortress” in the AFU’s Donbass defense line. If the city falls, the Ukrainian army will have to retreat to Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. However, the withdrawal from the city will certainly be accompanied by heavy losses.
9.jpg
According to a source in the Russian Defense Ministry, the AFU General Staff is transferring almost all available reserves to the Pokrovsk front, leaving other defenses vulnerable. Thanks to this, the RFAF has broken through the AFU defenses in other areas. In particular, a day before the information was released, the Russian army almost completely controlled the Serebryanskoye forest.
10.jpg
Not only did the Ukrainian army move troops to the main Donbass front, the fact that the Ukrainian army was able to recapture many villages in Sumy province was also due to the RFAF sending some forces to other areas. This information was reported by Ukrainian military expert Bogdan Miroshnikov.
11.jpg
According to Miroshnikov, the RFAF General Staff is currently actively preparing for the autumn offensive, which may begin in the next few weeks. But for now, the RFAF is not slowing down its current offensive tempo, Miroshnikov wrote.
12.jpg
Mr. Miroshnikov added that the RFAF is planning to advance into the Konstantinovka, Kupyansk, Liman, Orekhiv, Pokrovsk and Seversk regions. The RFAF will focus on breaking through to these regions during this year's summer-autumn campaign.
13.jpg
It is worth noting that the AFU General Staff was also forced to withdraw a large number of troops from the Sumy region to the Pokrovsk region, where the RFAF is currently concentrating the most forces on the battlefield. According to Ukrainian military experts, the AFU brigades operating in the Sumy region currently have only 30% of their personnel.
14.jpg
So in essence, this means that both sides are prioritizing different areas in the autumn campaign. Moscow may be determined to take full control of the Donetsk region; however, Kiev is also determined to hold on to it.
15.jpg
Therefore, the battle in the remaining areas of the Donetsk region controlled by Ukraine may become the main battle of the autumn campaign and may last until 2026. At the same time, according to some analyses, it is possible that when the AFU concentrates its forces in the Donetsk region, the RFAF will continue its offensive in other areas such as Zaporizhia, Kharkov or Sumy.
