Vietnam is entering a pivotal stage in the sustainable development process, when the carbon market is no longer a distant concept, but is becoming an important policy tool to help countries realize their commitments to reduce emissions, shift to a green growth model and achieve the goal of net zero emissions.
In the world , many mechanisms related to carbon pricing have been implemented early, such as the Emission Trading System (ETS), carbon credit trading and offsetting, or voluntary markets. These models not only contribute to controlling emissions, but also motivate businesses to invest in developing and applying clean technology, improving the efficiency of energy use and other input materials. Lessons in developing carbon markets from pioneering countries in the world are important suggestions for Vietnam to refer to, both ensuring suitability to the domestic context and meeting the requirements of global integration.

With the participation of guest speaker Dr. Nguyen Sy Linh, Head of Climate Change Department, Institute of Strategy and Policy for Agriculture and Environment (ISPAE), Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , the seminar "International experience in developing carbon market and some recommendations for Vietnam" organized by Dan Tri newspaper in collaboration with the Fund for Green Future - Vingroup Corporation will introduce carbon market models of some prominent countries and economic regions, and at the same time suggest and give recommendations for Vietnam in the process of building and developing the domestic carbon market.
Dr. Linh has a background in environmental and social sciences, received his PhD in Global, Urban and Social Studies from RMIT University (Australia) and has 25 years of experience in the environmental field. He has also spent more than 15 years focusing on climate change response policy research in Vietnam and internationally.
He has shared many articles with international organizations, research institutes and business associations in Vietnam about the green transformation trend, requirements for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, integrating climate change response requirements into strategies, planning and development plans as well as building action plans for businesses in the green transformation process.
Recently, he has participated in many training and support activities to help businesses better understand the requirements for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and green transformation.
In addition, he is also an expert with extensive experience in national and local climate action planning; has articles related to carbon pricing, orientation of solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the fields of solid waste, agriculture as well as carbon market development models, low carbon labels, nature-based solutions (NbS).
Since 2023, Dr. Linh has been a core member of the Technical Working Group on Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) of the Vietnam National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP).
With a combination of strategic understanding, practical experience and international vision, his analysis is expected to bring a multi-dimensional perspective to the policy-making process as well as action orientation for businesses in the green transformation roadmap and low-carbon economic development.
This event is part of the online talk series “Talk GreenBiz - Green Growth Compass” organized by the Green Future Fund - Vingroup Corporation in collaboration with Dan Tri newspaper, which will be broadcast live on Dan Tri newspaper platform at 9:00 a.m. on August 25.
