Mr. Kim Sang-sik explains the decision to call overseas Vietnamese players to the Vietnam U23 team.

"We and our team always closely monitor and analyze the expertise of players playing abroad, including Thanh Trung. In the next training session, I will evaluate more carefully. In the past, we have carefully evaluated the players' abilities before calling them up. Hopefully, the U23 Vietnam team will continue to have good results," said coach Kim Sang-sik.

On the afternoon of August 26, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) held a press conference to announce the main sponsor of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship Qualifiers, Group C, as Loc Phat Vietnam Bank ( LPBank ). Within the framework of this tournament, the Vietnam U23 team is in Group C with Yemen, Singapore and Bangladesh.

The matches in this group will take place at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho) from September 3 to September 9, 2025. The Vietnam U23 team will gather again on August 29, 2025 to prepare for the tournament. Regarding the squad, in addition to the experienced players who have just won the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, coach Kim Sang-sik also called up a very notable overseas Vietnamese player, midfielder Tran Thanh Trung, a player who grew up at CSKA Sofia, played professionally since 2013 and played for the Slavia Sofia first team in the Bulgarian National Championship before returning to Ninh Binh Club in V-League 1-2025/26.

Another name is Viktor Le, a Vietnamese-Russian who was also called up. The U23 Vietnam team is the group of players who just won the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship held recently in Indonesia.
