Eat fruits, vegetables and healthy carbohydrates for deeper sleep
Specifically, people who eat more fruits, vegetables, and healthy carbohydrates like whole grains during the day tend to have deeper sleep that night.
Researchers calculated that people who eat five cups of fruits and vegetables a day may have 16 percent better sleep quality than those who don't eat fruits or vegetables, according to medical news site Medical Express .
“A 16 percent difference is a very significant difference,” explains study leader Esra Tasali, MD, PhD, director of the University of Chicago Sleep Center. “It’s remarkable to see such an improvement in less than 24 hours.”
Based on current data, experts recommend regularly eating a diet rich in complex carbohydrates, fruits, and vegetables as best for long-term sleep.
Changing your diet can be a cost-effective way to get better sleep, says Dr. Tasali, according to Medical Express .
