Due to the impact of storm No. 5, many rice fields in the communes of Cam Xuyen, Cam Hung, Thien Cam, Cam Binh, Yen Hoa, Tu My, Duc Thinh, Thach Ha... were collapsed. Many rice fields that were in the ripening stage and ready to be harvested were submerged in water. In Cam Hung commune, in addition to the ripe areas, many areas with just full grains were also knocked down by the wind, greatly affecting the final yield. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thien (Trung Tien, Thien Cam commune) shared: "My rice has ripened, only a few days left until harvest, but heavy rain has caused all the rice to fall. If the bad weather continues, there is a high risk of crop failure."
The collapse and flooding of rice not only reduces productivity but also affects the quality of rice grains, because according to farmers, rice grains soaked in water for a long time are prone to germination or mold, spoilage, and cannot be harvested. This not only causes economic losses but also affects the food supply for people. In Tu My commune, many local rice fields were also flattened. Most of the rice fields are in the hard grain stage.
There is heavy rain and strong winds throughout the province, causing many areas of rice to collapse. According to data from the Ha Tinh Department of Crop Production and Livestock, in the summer-autumn crop of 2025, the whole province planted more than 45,170 hectares of rice. Currently, many localities are in the harvest season, however, with the current stormy weather, many rice fields are collapsed and flooded, causing damage that is inevitable.
Authorities recommend that when the rain stops, the top priority is to drain the water from the fields quickly. Timely drainage is the key to saving the remaining rice fields and preventing the rice from being flooded for too long.
