Early morning of August 28 in Paris (France), Vietnam's No. 1 female tennis player, Nguyen Thuy Linh (ranked 22nd in the world ) defeated Kirsty Gilmour (Scotland, ranked 31st) with a score of 2-0, winning the right to enter the third round of the women's singles event of the 2025 World Badminton Championship.
Facing a physically strong opponent who started the match fiercely, Thuy Linh was down 2-7 but quickly adjusted her playing style, equalizing 10-10 before winning 21-17 in set one.
In the second set, the Vietnamese female tennis player continued to actively set up the shuttlecock and finish effectively to lead 7-3. Although Gilmour persistently pursued and tied the score at 10-10, Thuy Linh still maintained her composure and ended up with a narrow victory of 23-21.
Thuy Linh is the only representative of Vietnam to enter round 3.
This victory not only helps Thuy Linh 'avenge' Gilmour after the Indonesia Open 2024 but also puts her in the group of 16 strongest players of the tournament. In round 3, the Vietnamese representative will meet Chen Yu Fei (China, ranked 4th in the world).
Previously, in the opening round, Thuy Linh made a splash when she eliminated former world champion Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand, ranked 10th). With her impressive form, the 27-year-old tennis player is expected to continue to create surprises at the world's most prestigious playground.
Vu Thi Trang had a good match against the world's number 14 seed.
Also early this morning, Vu Thi Trang stopped in the second round against the 14th seed, Gao Fangjie, losing 0-2 (21-17, 21-18). The duo Dinh Hoang-Dinh Manh also ended their journey in the second round when they lost 2-0 (21-5, 21-18) to the world-ranked duo from Chinese Taipei.
