Nguyen Anh Minh opened the 2025 US Amateur with a 71, temporarily in the top 64 competition group.

At The Olympic Club, the famous golf "holy land" located on the Pacific coast in San Francisco (USA), the world's most prestigious amateur tournament, the US Amateur 2025, has officially begun, gathering 312 young talents from all five continents.

This is the second consecutive time Anh Minh has participated thanks to his 37th position on the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), and is also the only representative of Vietnam at the tournament. In his first participation last year, Anh Minh stopped after 2 rounds of stroke play with a total score of +7 (76-73 strokes).

In the opening round, Anh Minh faced a challenge right from hole 1 with a bogey, and continued to lose points at holes 7, 11 and 15. However, his steely determination helped him break away at the crucial moment with three birdies at holes 9, 16 and 18, thereby temporarily ranking 38th after round 1 with a score (+1).

Leading the table are Charlie Forster and Tommy Morrison, both with 66 (-4), 5 strokes ahead of Anh Minh. Only the top 64 players will qualify for the knockout round, where the thrilling 1-on-1 confrontations will begin.

In round 2, Anh Minh's goal is very clear: to maintain his position in the top 64, to continue to bring the Vietnamese flag to appear on the biggest stage of the world's amateur golf village.

The 2025 US Amateur will take place at The Olympic Club from August 11 to 17. This is the oldest golf course in the US, opened in May 1860, and has hosted 5 US Opens.

312 golfers will play 36 holes of stroke play on two par 71 courses at The Olympic Club (Lake Course and Ocean Course), then the 64 golfers with the best scores will advance to the knockout round to find the champion.
