The family of Mrs. Phan Thi Hien (Anh Hung village, Thuong Loc commune) grows more than 1,000 orange trees on 2 hectares of hilly land. Currently, 600 orange trees have been harvested, including 400 crispy orange trees and 200 lemon orange trees. Her family's orange garden is famous far and wide for its many "ancient" orange trees.

“My family has 35 orange and lemon trees planted since 2007. These trees are now nearly 10m tall, each tree yields an average of 1.5 - 200kg of fruit, especially 4 - 5 trees yield up to 300kg of fruit/tree,” Ms. Hien shared.

Despite their "old age", the "super fruit" orange and lemon trees of Mrs. Hien's family still produce sweet, fragrant fruit with a fairly large size, an average of 3-4 fruits/kg.

Each orange branch bears hundreds of fruits in a row. Because the tree is tall and has many fruits, Mrs. Hien has to use a bamboo stick to prop up the branches to prevent them from breaking.

For trees with "huge" height, Ms. Hien has to climb high to prune branches and cut fruit.

The 16-year-old orange tree has moss-covered branches and trunk, but thanks to careful care, it still produces high fruit yields.

These days, Mrs. Hien's family has started harvesting oranges. This year, her family's orange garden is expected to yield more than 20 tons. Oranges meet VietGAP and 3-star OCOP standards, so they are very popular in the market. It is known that half of the output is consumed at Co.op mart supermarket in Ho Chi Minh City, the rest is ordered by traders directly from the garden to serve Tet.

Mr. Nguyen Hai - Vice Chairman of Thuong Loc Commune People's Committee informed: "Mrs. Hien's family is the oldest orange growing household in the commune. Currently, the whole commune has more than 600 households growing oranges on an area of over 230 hectares, of which more than 150 hectares are harvested. This year, the total orange output of the commune is estimated at more than 1,875 tons, expected to earn nearly 47 billion VND".
