According to Notice No. 203/TB-VPCP dated April 25, 2025 of the Government Office on the conclusion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during his working trip and meeting with ministries and localities on the investment situation in developing the transport infrastructure system in the Mekong Delta region, in Section II, Clause 3, there is the content "Requesting Saigon Newport Corporation and Vietnam National Shipping Lines to study the plan to establish a joint stock company to strengthen linkage and cooperation in logistics services in the Cai Cui port area, on that basis, the Ministry of Construction shall preside over and coordinate with the People's Committee of Can Tho and the two corporations to report to Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha for a meeting to agree, decide and report to the Prime Minister before May 31, 2025".
According to the report of Can Tho Department of Construction, Can Tho Port Joint Stock Company (a subsidiary of Vietnam National Shipping Lines) is operating Cai Cui Port with 2 wharves, total length of 365m, receiving ships up to 20,000 DWT, warehouse area behind the port of 25ha. The function is a general port, container, designed capacity according to the current status of 4.3 million tons of goods/year, mainly fertilizers, finished iron and steel products, imported timber, distributing motorbikes of Honda Vietnam , equipment for large traffic and electricity projects in the Mekong Delta region.
Tan Cang Waterway Transport Joint Stock Company (a subsidiary of Saigon Newport Corporation) operates Tan Cang Cai Cui Port with a wharf of 180m in length, receiving ships of up to 20,000 DWT, and a warehouse area of 8ha behind the port. Its function is a general cargo and container port, with a current design capacity of 2.44 million tons of cargo per year, mainly general cargo and containers.

At the meeting, the leaders of the two above-mentioned units briefly informed about the situation of port service exploitation and business; mentioned some difficulties due to the frequent siltation of the Dinh An - Can Tho shipping channel, which does not ensure the operation of large-tonnage ships; and expressed their desire to promote logistics development, exploiting the maximum potential and advantages of this important shipping route.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen - Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee - appreciated the positive contributions of the two units in investing in developing infrastructure and port services in Can Tho city in recent times, and affirmed that dredging combined with recovering products of Dinh An - Can Tho maritime channel for large tonnage ships entering and leaving Can Tho city ports and other ports in the region is extremely necessary, helping to promote exploitation efficiency and increase the capacity of transport ports in the region. The Chairman of the City People's Committee also said that if the seaport system is well invested and meets the needs, private enterprises, especially small and medium enterprises of the city, will benefit, creating a driving force to promote the economic development of the city and the region.
Based on the recommendations and proposals of the two units, the Chairman of the City People's Committee requested relevant departments to provide additional information on legality, current status, and planning orientation for the two corporations, and at the same time assigned the Department of Construction to urgently synthesize and report to the Ministry of Construction and the Deputy Prime Minister.
