Myanmar Detains Many Vietnamese Rescued From Online Fraud Facility

At the regular press conference on the afternoon of February 27, Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Ms. Pham Thu Hang, provided information on notable issues in recent times, especially citizen protection work in Myanmar and issues related to Thailand.

Protection of Vietnamese citizens in Myanmar

Regarding the information that Myanmar authorities are detaining many foreign citizens, including Vietnamese citizens, who were rescued after conducting a raid on online fraud establishments in the border area, Ms. Pham Thu Hang affirmed:

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with the Ministry of Public Security to verify the information and direct Vietnamese representative agencies in Myanmar and Thailand to work with local authorities to identify the Vietnamese citizen and promptly take necessary protection measures."

Thai media reported on February 26 that more than 7,000 foreigners from 28 nationalities have been rescued from international scam facilities in Myanmar and are awaiting repatriation to their home countries. According to the newspaper, among them are 572 Vietnamese (511 men, 61 women), the second largest group of victims after Chinese.

Verify information related to Vietnamese citizens in Thailand

In addition to the incident in Myanmar, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also closely following the situation of Vietnamese citizens in Thailand. Specifically, regarding the case of 43 Vietnamese citizens illegally entering Thailand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with local authorities to verify their identities and take appropriate protection measures. Vietnam pledges to coordinate with Thailand to ensure the legitimate rights of its citizens and take necessary steps to support those in difficulty.

In addition, the collision between a Thai Navy ship and a Vietnamese fishing boat is also being closely monitored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Vietnam has requested that Thailand clarify the cause of the incident, ensure the safety and interests of Vietnamese fishermen, and maintain cooperation to resolve the incident in a spirit of friendship and in compliance with international law.

Earlier, a Vietnamese fishing boat collided with a Thai navy patrol boat on Wednesday as authorities were trying to seize the vessel for illegal fishing in Thai waters off Trat province.
