A Minute III ICBM launch

On the US Air Force website, the Space Launch Delta 30 (SLD 30) task force announced that it had to cancel the test at the time the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile was flying over the Pacific Ocean during the launch in the early morning of November 2 (Vietnam time).

The decision to stop the missile's journey was made after SLD 30 detected an anomaly after the missile left the silo at the Space Force base in Vandenberg (California).

The US Air Force did not provide details about the incident, but said it had set up an analysis team to find out what happened.

“The command learns from every launch,” said Col. Lauren Linscott of the 30th SLD, adding that the data collection allows the US Air Force Global Strike Command to detect and correct any potential problems with the country’s strategic weapons systems.

The Minuteman III missile, manufactured by Boeing, plays a key role in the US military's strategic arsenal. The missile has a range of more than 9,660 km and can travel at a speed of 24,000 km/h.

About 400 of these missiles are stored in silos at US Air Force bases in the states of Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota.

According to af.mil , the new generation LGM-35A Sentinel ICBM is expected to replace the Minuteman III ICBM from 2029. Until the successor missile reaches full capability in the mid-2030s, the Minuteman III will remain one of the Pentagon's main deterrent weapons.
