On August 12, Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) announced that it will start construction on August 19 to expand the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway to 8-10 lanes and is expected to be completed in December 2026.

According to the approval decision, the route of the project to expand the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway will be extended to both sides along the existing road. The section passing through Long Thanh Bridge will be expanded to the right side of the route (downstream).
The project has a total investment of 14,945 billion VND, with VEC as the managing agency, investor and direct implementation and management. In terms of scale, the section from the Ring Road 2 intersection to the Ring Road 3 intersection, 4.8 km long, will be expanded from 4 lanes to 8 lanes. The section from the Ring Road 3 intersection to the intersection with Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, 14.7 km long, will be expanded from 4 lanes to 10 lanes. For Long Thanh Bridge, a new bridge unit with a scale of 5 complete lanes will be built in the direction from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh, on the right side of the existing bridge.
Regarding construction progress, the project is being implemented as an emergency construction project, with Long Thanh bridge's main bridge being completed in December 2026 and the remaining items being completed in March 2027.
