Opening a series of sand mines to supply transportation projects

Up to now, Tien Giang has granted 12 licenses for river sand exploitation, Ben Tre is preparing to exploit 3 sand mines to provide sand for filling traffic projects.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Canh - Vice Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee - has just signed a decision to establish a Council to appraise the environmental impact assessment report of the project "Mineral exploitation for common construction materials (sand filling) for the Quoi Son mine area in Quoi Son commune, Chau Thanh district, Ben Tre province" and assigned Mr. Doan Van Danh, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment as chairman.

The Council is responsible for reviewing and appraising the environmental impact assessment report of the above project and sending it to the Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee for consideration and approval. Quoi Son mine has reserves of more than 1 million cubic meters of sand.

This is one of three sand mines that Ben Tre province is preparing to put into operation with the main purpose of supplying sand for the investment project to build Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 under the direction of the Prime Minister, and partly supplying materials for projects, infrastructure and civil works in the province and neighboring areas.

Meanwhile, according to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tien Giang province, to date the province has issued 12 licenses to exploit river sand to supply 5 key traffic projects in the southern region, with a total volume of sand of about 9.698 million cubic meters.

Tien Giang is continuing to consider licensing additional sand mines to provide enough 15.95 million cubic meters of sand for transportation projects.

For the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project, Tien Giang province was assigned a target of supplying 6.6 million cubic meters of sand; for the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project, the target was 4.55 million cubic meters of sand; for the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project, the target was 2 million cubic meters of sand.

The Ho Chi Minh road project, Rach Soi - Ben Nhat and Go Quao - Vinh Thuan sections, has a target of 1.8 million cubic meters of sand, and the component project 2 of the Cao Lanh - An Huu expressway construction project, phase 1, has a target of 950,000 cubic meters of sand.
