The operation took place on the outskirts of the town of Quiriego, in the northern state of Sorona, Mexico. Hundreds of tons of pre-processed and finished drugs were seized, with a value of up to $700 million.

According to a statement from the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) and the Mexican Defense Ministry (SEDENA) on February 12, the coalition forces conducted thorough reconnaissance before conducting a raid and attack on this drug factory.

As a result, more than 41 tons of finished drugs and 13 tons of raw materials were seized, along with hundreds of devices used in the process of preparing and producing synthetic drugs.

The Sorona State Prosecutor’s Office has estimated that the amount of drugs seized is enough to produce approximately 1.3 billion doses of synthetic drugs, with a street value of $700 million. Notably, this amount of drugs accounts for 50% of the total amount of drugs seized by Mexican authorities since the beginning of 2024.

According to a United Nations study, revenue from global drug trafficking could reach $900 billion each year, with drug trafficking in Central America and the United States accounting for two-thirds of the total.

The destruction of this largest drug factory in Mexico has made an important contribution to the fight against drugs in Mexico and the international community.

However, this is also a testament to the complexity and difficulty in ending the global drug trade, requiring closer cooperation and related efforts from the international community to ensure security and health for countries around the world .
