Mercedes-Benz has just officially introduced the CLA Shooting Brake EQ – the first pure electric wagon model of the new generation of the CLA line. This is a highly practical version, combining a sporty design and spacious space, promising to heat up the electric station wagon segment in the European market when it goes on sale from March 2026. With the CLA Shooting Brake, Mercedes-Benz is bringing its concept creation, which combines the sporty proportions of a four-door coupé with greater luggage space and a wide tailgate, into the electric era. The concept debuted in 2012 with the CLS Shooting Brake. By 2015, Mercedes-Benz had successfully established itself in the compact car segment with the first CLA Shooting Brake.
The exterior of the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake is not much different from the 4-door Coupe version. The overall dimensions of the new generation CLA Shooting Brake are superior to the old one (launched in 2019) respectively (LxWxH) 4,723 x 1,855 x 1,469 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm. The highlight when looking directly at the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake is the simulated radiator grille with the illuminated 3-pointed star logo. The hood is extended from front to rear, optimizing interior space as well as expanding luggage. The 3-pointed star badge also appears in many positions. The interior of the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake is highlighted by the MBUX Superscreen (optional) with a 10.25-inch digital dashboard, a 14-inch central touch screen and a 14-inch passenger seat screen. The MB.OS operating system combined with the MBUX Virtual Assistant virtual assistant, operates on an artificial intelligence (AI) platform from Microsoft or Google.
In addition, the car also has the option of a panoramic sunroof with electrochromic technology that can change transparency in just 0.02 seconds. The interior lighting system combined with 158 star patterns enhances the aesthetics and luxury experience. The CLA Shooting Brake EQ has a front luggage compartment of 101 liters and a rear compartment of 455 liters, which can be expanded to 1,290 liters when the rear seats are folded. The CLA 250+ version is equipped with a single electric motor, rear-wheel drive, with a capacity of 272 horsepower and 335 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the CLA 350 4MATIC uses two electric motors, for a total capacity of 354 horsepower and maximum torque of 515 Nm, with full-time 4-wheel drive. Both versions use an 85 kWh NMC lithium-ion battery, providing an impressive operating range of up to 761 km (CLA 250+) and 730 km (CLA 350 4MATIC) according to WLTP standards. The car supports AC charging up to 22 kW and DC fast charging up to 320 kW, allowing the car to travel an additional 300 - 310 km after just 10 minutes of charging.
Along with the electric car, Mercedes-Benz also revealed images of the CLA Shooting Brake version using an internal combustion engine. Although detailed specifications have not been announced, it is likely that this model will still use the MMA platform with a 48V mild hybrid powertrain. Notably, the engine can operate entirely on electricity at a maximum speed of 100 km/h thanks to the motor integrated in the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (8F-eDCT). The Shooting Brake design, which blends coupe style and wagon practicality, has long been popular in Europe. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, this type of car is still quite new and not yet popular. However, for those who are not too strict about rear seat space but prioritize a sporty driving feel, the CLA Shooting Brake EQ will be the ideal choice in the small multi-purpose vehicle segment.
