Meo Vac converts more than 175 hectares of ineffective corn land to grow crops of high economic value

Of the total 175.5 hectares converted by Meo Vac district, there are 154 hectares of high-yield cassava, 13 hectares of sweet potato, 5 hectares of Polygonum multiflorum and 3.5 hectares of pear. According to the assessment of the district's professional department, the initial conversion has brought about clear economic efficiency. 1 hectare of sweet potato can generate an income of 80 - 120 million VND/crop, 2 - 3.7 times higher than corn cultivation. High-yield cassava has an average yield of 45 tons/ha, with a total revenue of 40 - 54 million VND/ha/crop. Perennial plants such as Polygonum multiflorum and pear, although not yet harvested, are expected to bring outstanding income in the coming years. In addition to economic efficiency, the conversion also contributes to reducing soil erosion, increasing green cover and changing people's production awareness.

From the initial results achieved, Meo Vac district continues to promote the conversion of ineffective corn-growing land to high-value crops, focusing on flexibly utilizing central and local budget sources and mobilizing resources from enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups, and individuals to organize the implementation; encourage production linkage models according to the value chain to ensure product output; carry out inspection work well, closely follow the base, grasp the situation, promptly remove difficulties and obstacles arising during the implementation process.
