Every year, when September 2nd is approaching, veterans of Hang Vinh commune (Nam Can district, Ca Mau province) gather at Mr. Ba Hoa's house (Thai Thanh Hoa, 77 years old, residing in Hamlet 4, Hang Vinh commune) to discuss making a meal to offer to Uncle Ho.

This year, after discussion, members of the Veterans Association of Hang Vinh commune agreed to invite representatives of the armed forces stationed in the area, commune organizations and people in the hamlet to participate.

The work of buying ingredients, cooking, and preparing the offering tray is taken care of by Mr. Ba Hoa's family and everyone else.

Every year, on September 2, veterans of Hang Vinh commune prepare a simple meal to offer to Uncle Ho.

Inside Mr. Ba Hoa's house, Uncle Ho's portrait is placed in the most solemn place. There are also many pictures of Uncle Ho's revolutionary life that have been carefully collected and preserved by everyone. Mr. Ba Hoa has posted Uncle Ho's sayings, slogans, and teachings in easy-to-observe places for everyone to contemplate, learn, and follow.

“I was born and raised during the war, so I understand the great value of peace and independence. For the country to have peace today, the whole nation had to go through many losses and pains. During that process, Uncle Ho was the one who showed the way and guided the way. He devoted his whole life to the people and the country. So on the anniversary of his death, the family prepared a meal to offer him,” Mr. Ba Hoa shared.

Mr. Dinh Ngoc Doanh, Chairman of the Veterans Association of Hang Vinh Commune, said: “Veterans come here to offer incense to commemorate and express their respect and deep gratitude to Uncle Ho. This is also an opportunity to propagate, educate , and mobilize the masses and the young generation to contribute to the development of the homeland to become more and more prosperous.”

Similarly, for nearly 40 years, every year, Mrs. Tu Tuyet (Truong Thi Tuyet, 74 years old, residing in Xom Lon Ngoai hamlet, Hang Vinh commune) has made a respectful meal to offer to Uncle Ho on September 2nd, to express her respect and gratitude for the great contributions of the great leader of the nation. The meal to offer to Uncle Ho is as simple as the offerings to ancestors of the people in the area, including braised pork with duck eggs, stewed bitter melon, boiled shrimp and crab...

When offering prayers for Uncle Ho's death anniversary, Tu Tuyet's family invited neighbors to come, first to light incense sticks in memory of Uncle Ho, together to tell stories about Uncle Ho, review revolutionary traditions; then together to remind and encourage each other to try hard to make a living and improve in life.

According to Ms. Phan Thi Trang Phuong, Secretary of the Hang Vinh Commune Party Committee, the veterans in the area made a meal offering to Uncle Ho similar to the meal offering to ancestors of the Southern people. This action shows the tradition of remembering the source of drinking water, the people's heart towards beloved Uncle Ho. This is also an opportunity for cadres and party members to reflect on themselves, continue to study and follow Uncle Ho's ideology, morality and style.
