Malware is increasingly complex, but many leaders still take it lightly.

In the first 6 months of 2025, ransomware and advanced persistent threat (APT) attacks increased, targeting businesses as well as government organizations.

In 2024, ransomware cyber attacks targeting large enterprises in Vietnam sounded the alarm bell for the country's cybersecurity system.

At the seminar "TCVN 14423:2025 National standards on network security for important information systems" held on the afternoon of June 19 in Hanoi, Lieutenant Colonel Le Xuan Thuy - Director of the National Cyber Security Center (Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention - A05, Ministry of Public Security ) - assessed that in the first 6 months of 2025, ransomware attacks and other forms of targeted attacks are threats not only in Vietnam but also have an impact worldwide.

In Vietnam, attacks not only target businesses related to the energy sector, but also target essential national systems, including state organizations and even the systems of press agencies and news agencies. This reality poses an urgent need to improve cybersecurity defense capabilities nationwide.

Faced with the complicated developments in the cyber security situation, reality shows that many units in Vietnam are still weak in the field of early warning information on cyber security.

A key issue that makes systems vulnerable to intrusion is due to weaknesses in cybersecurity awareness and investment orientation.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Xuan Thuy frankly pointed out the weaknesses and low awareness from leaders to cybersecurity specialists of many units.

"They have not yet properly assessed the importance and level of risk from today's complex cyber attacks. This is a serious flaw, when those who hold the power to make decisions have not yet fully seen the potential risks from the digital space," the director of the National Cyber Security Center shared.

To solve this problem, the National Cyber Security Center is building a set of guiding standards as a "compass" to help organizations assess their defense capabilities, determine what to prioritize for deployment, and quantify the system's security status at a specific level.
