Modric's contract attracted attention not only because of the Croatian star's name, but also because of the profound influence he brought to the San Siro stadium despite being 39 years old.

According to an announcement from AC Milan, Modric has signed a one-year contract with the option to extend for another 12 months. The Croatian star will receive a salary of around 4 million euros per season, excluding bonuses.
Despite being in the twilight of his career, the 2018 Golden Ball winner still shows his class and outstanding ability to control the match while playing for Real Madrid and the Croatian national team.
Modric's presence will increase the strength of AC Milan's midfield as the team has ambitions to go far in the Champions League.
With his competitive spirit and stability in the midfield position, Modric is a factor that helps balance the AC Milan squad when this team is in the process of rejuvenation under coach Paulo Fonseca with a series of young talents such as Tijjani Reijnders, Yacine Adli and Yunus Musah.
The Croatian midfielder's decision to join AC Milan is also considered an emotional one. He has expressed his admiration for Andrea Pirlo, the legend of AC Milan and Italian football, since his youth. This could be the final destination in Modric's nearly two-decade-long career.
Despite receiving many attractive offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia with higher salaries, Modric still decided to stay in Europe to continue playing at the highest level, in order to nurture the hope of participating in the 2026 World Cup.
The Croatian midfielder has participated in 4 World Cups in 2006, 2014, 2018 and 2022. In 2010, Croatia did not qualify. Most memorable was at the 2018 World Cup, Modric won the Golden Ball of the tournament when he led Croatia to the final.

As for Real Madrid, Modric's departure was expected as the team is gradually transferring to a new generation with names like Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni.
However, the Croatian midfielder will always be remembered as one of the greatest midfielders to ever play for the Royal team.
