The Vietnamese women's volleyball team suffered a 1-3 defeat against powerful Poland in the opening match, but it was a defeat in which coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team "gained more than they lost". The first thing the Vietnamese team gained was competition experience. Before the match, no one thought our girls would win a game against Poland. The team members themselves had previously only "dared" to hope that we would create many tense situations, or not lose by too much of a score. However, a reasonable strategy, combined with the Polish team being surprised by the way we entered the game, allowed the Vietnamese team to do what even the Thai team could not do against Poland in this year's Volleyball Women's Nations League (VNL 2025). This will give coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's students more confidence in the next two matches, when Germany and Kenya are easier opponents than Poland.

The second benefit is to improve the image of Vietnamese women's volleyball with international friends. Not long ago, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) announced on its homepage the decision to disqualify the Vietnamese women's U.21 team from the U.21 Women's World Cup in Indonesia. Then the story of a Vietnamese player withdrawing right before the team left for Thailand for personal reasons was also reported and commented unsympathetically by many regional media outlets. After the match with Poland, the international view of Vietnamese women's volleyball has certainly become much more positive.
What did coach Tuan Kiet say about the German volleyball team?
The Vietnamese team's players and playing style were "witnessed" by the German team in the match against Poland. Therefore, this team will have careful preparation to avoid surprises. In the opening match, the German girls won convincingly 3-0 against Kenya and if they beat Vietnam, they will soon win a ticket to the next round. The strength of the German team comes from the trio Alsmeier, Weske, Weizel - the top scorers in the opening match. The German team's playing style is also diverse and effective, starting with powerful attacking serves and tight defense.
Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet said that the German team had played on par with the world's top and second-ranked teams, Italy and Brazil, so they were superior to the Vietnamese team. "The important factor that the Vietnamese players must maintain is their mentality, their spirit of playing comfortably and confidently. I hope they play as well as in game 1 or at least create a tense, tit-for-tat situation like in game 4 against Poland," coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet shared.
Facing the disciplined German team, the Vietnamese team needs to concentrate highly and execute the first step well to launch an attack. If the first step is not good, the Vietnamese team will be passive, thereby giving the attack front to the opponent.
Vi Thi Nhu Quynh is expected to continue to effectively promote her strength in the attack. In addition, the fast attacks from the middle blockers Tran Thi Bich Thuy and Nguyen Thi Trinh also need to be promoted. Captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy retreats to support the defense but is also ready to "share the fire" with the attack. Another position that is also playing very well is libero Nguyen Khanh Dang. Her spectacular saves will motivate her teammates when playing against a strong team like Germany.
