Tran Quyet Chien's fateful opponent
Just on the morning of August 11, Vietnamese billiards fans experienced some "heart-stopping" moments when Tran Quyet Chien unexpectedly launched a series of 9 points at the end of the match, holding Jeremy Bury to a 40-40 draw in the group stage. However, just 1 day later (today, August 12), fate brought these two players to face each other again in the quarterfinals. This promised fiery encounter will take place at 12:30 on August 12 (Vietnam time).
The quarter-final match between Tran Quyet Chien and Jeremy Bury was broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the World Sports Billiards Federation (link: https://www.youtube.com/@wcbsbilliards6125/streams).

Jeremy Bury (44 years old) is one of the most experienced players in the European 3-cushion carom billiards community. The French player and Tran Quyet Chien have met many times in tournaments under the World Carom Billiards Federation (UMB). In 2016, Bury defeated Quyet Chien in the final of the Guri World Cup (Korea). Bury is known as the "time king", because he has a habit of letting the countdown clock near 0 before making a shot. This playing style has made top players struggle many times, and will certainly be a big challenge for Quyet Chien in the quarterfinals.
The form of both teams before this match shows that this is an unpredictable match. In the group stage, Bury beat Luiz Martinez and then drew with Quyet Chien to quickly secure a ticket to the quarter-finals. Quyet Chien started slowly when facing Bury and continued to win a thrilling victory against Martinez, but still entered the quarter-finals as the top team in Group C thanks to a better goal difference.
In the last match, Bury drew 40-40 with Quyet Chien.

In recent encounters, Quyet Chien often had the advantage over Bury. This is a factor that adds confidence to the Ha Tinh native, especially when he is aiming to go deeper in his first World Games. In the group stage, Quyet Chien did not lose because this match was a one-round format, and he was allowed to start after winning the gold. But in the knockout quarter-final, the Vietnamese player will not have a chance to correct his mistake if he lets his opponent score enough points first.
The remaining quarter-final matches of the 3-cushion carom billiards World Games 2025 include: the internal Korean competition between Cho Myung-woo and Heo Jung-han at 10:00, Martin Horn (Germany) vs Pedro Piedrabuena (USA) at 16:00, Tayfun Tasdemir (Türkiye) vs Sameh Sidhom (Egypt) at 18:00.
