North Korea's KCNA news agency reported on January 5 that Mr. Kim visited a transporter-erector-launcher (TEL) factory in the country. There, Mr. Kim said that the production of various vehicles for tactical and strategic weapons is an important task in Pyongyang's efforts to strengthen its nuclear war deterrence.

"Emphasizing that the position and role of the plant are very important... in view of the current grave situation requiring the country to be more firmly prepared for a military confrontation with the enemy, he (Kim) pointed out the tasks the plant must accomplish," KCNA said.

The report came hours after the White House on January 4 accused North Korea of recently supplying Russia with ballistic missiles and launchers for use in the war in Ukraine, and that Moscow’s forces had fired some of them on the battlefield. The US administration based its latest accusations on newly declassified intelligence, calling it a “significant and troubling escalation,” according to Reuters.

For months, Washington has accused Pyongyang of supplying military equipment to Moscow in exchange for technical assistance from Russia, helping North Korea improve its military capabilities. North Korea has always denied supplying weapons to Russia.

Mr. Kim Jong-un visited the rocket launch vehicle factory, directed to boost production.

At a key party conference last week, Mr. Kim ordered the military, the munitions industry and North Korea’s nuclear weapons sector to accelerate war preparations, declaring that U.S. policy made war inevitable.

"(Mr. Kim) detailed the immediate plan for producing various types of TELs, the long-term production plan and the tasks for production capacity," KCNA said.
