From the supported resources, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thiep's family built a new, spacious house.
As social protection beneficiaries, the family of parishioner Nguyen Van Thang (71 years old) and his wife Nguyen Thi Thiep (72 years old) in village 4, Yen Ninh commune have to live in a dilapidated level 4 house of about 30 square meters with their sick child for decades but have no ability to repair or build a new house. Directive No. 22-CT/TU dated March 30, 2024 of the Standing Committee of Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee on "The campaign to support the construction of houses for poor households, policy households, and households with housing difficulties in the province, in the 2 years 2024-2025" has brought the opportunity to realize the dream of settling down for many people, especially the elderly like Mr. Thang and Ms. Thiep.
Ms. Thiep said: "The house was built with 80 million VND in support according to the spirit of Directive 22-CT/TU and 60 million VND from Caritas Thanh Hoa. Now we no longer have to take turns collecting water every time it rains."
The family of Mr. Le Trong Dong (born in 1986) in Le Xa 1 sub-area, Nong Cong commune is a poor household, with difficult circumstances, with young children. The couple only depends on a few fields and the support of neighbors. The couple and their two children live in a dilapidated, leaky, corrugated iron house of about 20 square meters, and they dare not think that one day they will be able to build a new house.
Understanding and sharing Mr. Dong's situation, in April 2025, the Steering Committee for the campaign to build houses for poor households, policy households, and households with housing difficulties in Nong Cong district (old) supported the couple with 80 million VND. Along with the borrowed money, neighbors helping with labor, the couple was able to build a flat-roofed house with 2 bedrooms and a living room of nearly 80 square meters.
Mr. Dong emotionally shared: “Living in such a big and beautiful new house, I can only thank the government, relatives, and neighbors. My wife and I will encourage each other to try to overcome difficulties, work, produce, and soon escape poverty.”
Mr. Dong's joy is also the common feeling of 31 households in Nong Cong commune who have received support to build and repair houses recently. Standing Deputy Secretary of the Commune Party Committee Truong Cong Tuan said: “The whole commune currently has 125 poor households, accounting for 1.05%. In 2024-2025, the commune has 31 households supported to build houses; of which 23 households are supported in the spirit of Directive No. 22-CT/TU, 8 households are supported to build and repair according to the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for relatives of martyrs. By mid-July 2025, all 31 households have completed the construction and repair of houses, meeting the "3 hard" criteria (hard frame, hard roof, hard floor) and an area of not less than 30m2. In addition to support from the Central Government, the province and local authorities, households also receive help from relatives and friends including money, materials and labor. The total value of the houses after completion ranges from 120 to 250 million VND/house".
Each completed house given to a poor household is a practical gift, demonstrating the spirit of “mutual love and support”, joining hands for the poor of the community; a great source of encouragement for families to work with peace of mind, to rise out of poverty. With a high sense of political responsibility, local Party committees and authorities in the province are resolutely directing and mobilizing the participation of the entire political system, organizations and forces, speeding up the progress, striving to complete all house construction work before August 20.
