Record F1 racing tire change in 1.8 seconds

VnExpressVnExpress12/10/2023

The time it takes to change a tire for an F1 car has just been set by the McLaren racing team, faster than the 1.82 seconds of the Red Bull team in 2019.

F1 racing car tire change record in just 1.8 seconds

The F1 Qatar GP last weekend set a new record for the fastest time to change tyres, achieved by McLaren on lap 27, when Lando Norris stopped in the pit lane.

Compared to the old record of 1.82 seconds in 2019 of the Red Bull team, the new record is also impressive with the racing tires being a new type (according to regulations from 2020), larger and heavier than the 2019 tires.

In 2023, the dry and minimum weight of the F1 racing car will reach 798 kg, an increase of 2 kg compared to 2022 due to technical regulations, including the 18-inch Pirelli tires. Normally, each racing tire weighs around 9-11 kg.

F1 racing tires are mounted to the axle with a single central nut, not the five petal bolts commonly seen on civilian cars. The impact wrench is also specially designed to fit, ensuring a quick tire change.
