Customers are angry with Sony

PlayStation's push to release multi-platform games is causing a wave of discontent among the fan community, with many gamers even threatening to switch to PC.

Last week, a job posting from Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) revealed that the publisher is planning to expand its titles to multiple platforms, including Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile.

The recruitment announcement comes after PlayStation announced earlier this month that Helldivers 2 would be coming to Xbox Series X/S, a move that has reportedly sparked controversy among PlayStation fans.

In fact, similar debates erupted in 2021 when PS4 and PS5 titles began to land on PC. It seems Sony PlayStation is looking to emulate Xbox's success in releasing games across multiple platforms.

The clearest proof is that right on PS5, PlayStation's latest exclusive title, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, has been surpassed in sales by a game published by Xbox itself: Forza Horizon 5. The famous open -world racing game released in 2021 by Xbox Game Studios has reached 2 million copies sold, while Kojima Productions' blockbuster only reached 1 million copies sold in the same period.

“I’ve always been a PlayStation fan because it has some of the best exclusives. If PS exclusives like Spider-Man 2 , The Last Of Us , or God Of War start coming to other consoles like Xbox, PlayStation will really lose its appeal,” said one fan.

Sony's decision has been met with a wave of backlash across social media, with many users even threatening to switch to PC gaming if the policy is implemented.

"If the reason I bought a PlayStation starts to be available on other consoles, then why would I buy a PS and not an Xbox or Nintendo? If this happens, PS will officially lose its main appeal to me, I'll switch to PC," another gamer shared on Reddit.

However, not all PlayStation fans agree with this view. Many believe that this is a positive move for the gaming industry.

“Games cost a lot to produce. Limiting your audience while expecting good results is ridiculous. You’re just reducing your return on investment if you don’t release across platforms,” one commenter pointed out.

“They started this process years ago. They could just be bringing their older games to other platforms. I’m guessing their new games will remain PlayStation exclusive for at least 2-3 years before going cross-platform,” a third respondent commented.

While there's still some skepticism about Bloodborne's imminent arrival on Steam, the fact that the "console wars" controversy is slowly fading away is a welcome sign for the gaming industry as a whole.

After the success of Helldivers 2 on Xbox, analysts are very curious about Sony's next move in releasing multi-platform games. Will it be online service titles, or will PlayStation exploit its huge offline game library? The answer is still ahead.
