Israel attacks Gaza, 38 people killed in one day

The Guardian quoted information from the Gaza Civil Defense Authority as saying that Israeli attacks on the strip on June 6, the first day of Eid al-Adha, killed 38 people.

"Israel has carried out attacks on several locations in Gaza since dawn on June 6, killing 38 people, including 11 victims in Jabalia, northern Gaza," said civil defense official Mohammed al-Mughayyir.

Palestinians in Gaza were seen praying outside destroyed mosques and homes on the first day of Eid al-Adha. The strip is facing a dire humanitarian crisis, with food supplies running low and Israeli attacks continuing.

The United Nations says more than 2,700 children in Gaza are suffering from acute malnutrition.

Previously, former Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman revealed to the media that the Israeli government was providing weapons to groups opposing Hamas in Gaza, under the direction of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"The Israeli government is supplying weapons to a criminal group in Gaza - Abu Shabab. This group is identified as having links to the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) organization," Avigdor Lieberman told Kan Bet.

The Abu Shabab group has previously been accused of being involved in smuggling operations linked to Egyptian jihadist groups.

On June 5, after allegations of supplying weapons to Hamas opposition groups in Gaza were spread in the media, Prime Minister Netanyahu's office said Israel "is working to defeat Hamas using various measures, based on the recommendations of the heads of security agencies."
