In addition, the tournament will have 2 events for professional athletes, including Open Men's Doubles and Open Women's Doubles. Each event in this tournament is expected to have 32 pairs of athletes competing, so the total number of athletes participating in the tournament will be more than 500, showing the grand scale of the tournament.

However, many athletes, especially those who have just started playing pickleball for a short time, still do not know clearly what level they are at to register for the tournament of Dan Tri newspaper. Below is the answer of Mr. Tran Quang Khai. Head of the Pickleball Club, Center for Culture, Sports and Tourism of Cau Giay District ( Hanoi ).

Level 1.0 - 2.0 (Beginner pickleball player)

At this level, the player is just getting acquainted with pickleball and is in the basic learning stage.

+ Basic understanding of the rules of the game, serving rules and how to hold the racket: Players understand the serving rules, kitchen regulations and basic scoring. The correct way to hold the racket and standing posture begin to form.

+ Limited mobility and reflexes: Beginners often move slowly, are not used to adjusting their position and reacting to unexpected moves.

+ Start getting used to simple shots like forehand and backhand: The movements are still awkward but start forming the habit of swinging the racket and controlling the ball over the net.

Mr. Tran Quang Khai believes that level below 2.0 is for those who are new to pickleball. At this level, players have mastered the basic movements of pickleball with forehand, backhand, hitting the ball off the ground, smashing the ball in the air, but the success rate is not high (success rate from 4-6/10 balls) and do not have the skills to perform a dink at the net.

Level 2.5 - 3.0 (Elementary level)

By the time they reach level 2.5 - 3.0, players have a solid foundation and begin to make significant progress.

+ Ability to serve and return the ball consistently: Players can execute serves correctly, evenly, and return the ball to the opponent's court more accurately.

+ Knows how to control the ball and keep rallies short: Can start to maintain 3-5 passes, although not really stable but understands how to control the force and direction of the ball.

+ Begin to perform some volleys and know how to move the basic position in doubles: The player has practiced how to stand in a reasonable position, knows how to move in sync with teammates and can volley when the ball flies across the net.

According to Mr. Tran Quang Khai, at this level, players have understood how to play pickleball. They have the skill to set the ball, have formed a defensive drop from the back of the court (a light hit, helping the ball fly slowly and fall into the area near the opponent's net), and have the awareness to change the state from a defensive drop to a counterattack by gradually moving towards the net.

However, people at this level are not yet accurate in choosing situations to continue defending or gradually advancing. There are still mistakes such as choosing the wrong attack situation, leading to being counter-attacked by the opponent.

Level 3.5 - 4.0 (Intermediate level)

At the intermediate level, players have a solid technical foundation and are starting to grasp tactics.

+ Ability to serve, return serve and execute groundstrokes more accurately. These are shots with power, spin and direction. Players at this level know how to control the ball and find the opponent's weak points.

+ Know how to use the dink, volley and smash at the right time: Not only know how to execute, but also know how to use the right technique depending on the situation to control the tempo of the match.

+ Have good coordination with teammates and understand basic tactics: Start applying offensive and defensive tactics, coordinate movements, and cover the field with teammates in harmony.

Level 4.5 - 5.0 (Advanced)

At the senior level, players have achieved mastery and compete at a serious competitive level.

+ Perform all shots proficiently (dink, volley, smash, lob, drop shot): Players flexibly use different techniques with high accuracy and confidence.

+ Ability to move quickly and read the game situation well: Know how to predict the direction of the ball, move before the ball arrives and always be proactive in all situations.

+ Understand and apply advanced tactics, compete effectively at high intensity: Be ready to switch tactics at each score, attack or defend flexibly to take the initiative.

Level 5.5+ (Professional/Elite)

This level is for professional tennis players or athletes competing at national and international levels.

+ Professional level technique, reflexes and movement: Every shot has near perfect precision and power. Quick reflexes, precise ball handling even in complex situations.

+ Flexible in tactics, know how to adjust playing style according to the opponent: Always stay calm, observe the opponent and change playing style continuously to put pressure.

+ Participate in national and international tournaments: These are professional players, achieving high rankings in major tournaments, representing the top level of pickleball.

Thus, those with level 3.5 or higher can only register for the Open Men's Doubles and Open Women's Doubles content at the pickleball tournament "Dan Tri 20 years - Bright new days".
