English major students perform Broadway-style play about family issues

On the evening of June 20, at the Army Theater (Hanoi), the 15th season of the musical English Performance (EP) took place. This is an annual event that attracts the attention of a large audience, especially young people who love musicals in the capital Hanoi.

English Performance (EP) is an annual English musical program performed by English major students of Hanoi -Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

At this year's show, the students brought a musical called "808 The Musical".

The story is about a 15-year-old girl named Daphne, full of dreams and imagination. She unexpectedly walks through a strange door leading to Dream Train - a place where no one knows why they came, nor when they will leave. Here, she meets people who are gradually losing their emotions because their lives are stuck in a repetitive and monotonous world . In that obscure world, imagination and memory are the keys to finding the meaning of life.

The play delves into the issue of family conflict when children's dreams and parents' expectations are at odds. It conveys the message that family affection is the driving force for children to realize their dreams.

With an engaging storyline combined with a Broadway-style performance in an iconic stage setting, “808 The Musical” immerses the audience in a multidimensional space, touching the deepest layers of emotions in each audience member – a place where everyone can be trapped, and also wait for a door to step out.

“Through this play, we want to tell parents to always listen to and support their children's dreams, and family affection is the biggest motivation to help children develop,” Le Ha Trang, an 11th grade English 2 student at Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, shared after the play.

After more than 7 months of preparation, English Performance 2025 has ended with an emotional musical night. Not just a performance, the EP is like a journey - where passion is nurtured, friendships are bonded and each participant learns to believe in their inner voice.

English Performance is an English-language art playground - where students who love English have the opportunity to burn out with their passion for the stage. Not only acting, singing or dancing, EP 2025 is also a place for you to demonstrate your ability to build a play from script, music to staging and communication.
