In recent years, Hanoi ’s Party Committees and authorities have always focused on population and development work. Therefore, Hanoi has achieved many important achievements in population work such as maintaining the replacement fertility rate, the rate of pregnant women being screened for the four most common congenital diseases before birth (reaching 85%), the rate of newborns being screened for the five most common congenital diseases (reaching 90%)…
Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Health Tran Van Chung emphasized this when speaking at the Rally in response to World Population Day (July 11) with the theme "Reproductive autonomy in a changing world," organized by Hanoi People's Committee on July 8.
According to Mr. Chung, the rate of young people receiving pre-marital counseling and health check-ups reached 82%; the average life expectancy was 76.5; the sex ratio at birth is gradually being controlled. Hanoi has synchronously deployed many models such as: Pre-marital counseling, health care for adolescents, youth and the elderly, and at the same time included population content in socio -economic development targets at all levels.
Mr. Tran Van Chung affirmed that in recent years, the Party and State have always paid attention to population work and adjusted policies to suit the context and actual situation. With the principle of taking people as the center, as the goal of the country's sustainable development, in Resolution No. 21-NQ/TW dated October 25, 2017 on population work in the new situation.
Currently, facing practical population issues arising such as: The replacement fertility rate nationwide is not really sustainable, there is a trend of low fertility; the sex ratio at birth has decreased but has not yet returned to the natural balance; rapid population aging, population distribution, and migration management have not received due attention... requiring innovations to solve population issues more comprehensively, synchronously and fundamentally.
Therefore, the rally program in response to World Population Day (July 11) with the theme "Reproductive autonomy in a changing world" aims to emphasize the basic rights of each individual, especially women and young people, to access information and medical services to be proactive, free and responsible in reproductive decisions.

Mr. Le Thanh Dung - Director of the Department of Population (Ministry of Health) said that in order to effectively implement, create a clear change and stability in population and development work, in the coming time, it is necessary to strengthen the comprehensive leadership and direction of all levels of government, promote the strength of the entire political system in implementing population policies in the new situation. Along with that, Hanoi needs to promote communication, raise public awareness of gender equality, increase investment in health services, expand population services to the grassroots, ensure access for all people, protect the reproductive rights of each person, encourage marriage and childbirth at the right age...
Along with the rally, delegates and forces participated in the campaign to respond to World Population Day, spreading meaningful messages, affirming that population work is an important task in the socio-economic development strategy of the capital and the country./.
