Pepper price today in the world
The global pepper market recorded stability.
Indonesia:
Black Pepper: Indonesian black pepper prices were stable at $7,216 per tonne.
White pepper: Indonesian white pepper price also remained unchanged at USD 10,028/ton.
Malaysia:
Black Pepper: Malaysian ASTA black pepper price remained stable at USD 9,700/ton.
White pepper: Malaysian ASTA white pepper price also remained unchanged at USD 12,900/ton.
Brazil and Vietnam:
Brazil: ASTA 570 black pepper price remained stable at USD 6,400/ton.
Vietnam: Vietnam's pepper export prices remained stable. Black pepper 500 g/l and 550 g/l were priced at USD 6,240/ton and USD 6,370/ton, respectively. Meanwhile, Vietnam's ASTA white pepper remained unchanged at USD 9,150/ton.
One of the most important factors affecting the world pepper situation is the new US tariff policy. The US imposing a 50% tax on Brazilian and Indian pepper, while Vietnam is only subject to a 20% tax, is changing the market landscape.
These two countries will face great challenges in maintaining market share in the US market due to high tariffs that reduce product competitiveness.
Vietnam has much lower tariffs than Brazil and India, while Indonesia even had its tariffs reduced to 19%. This creates a huge opportunity for both Vietnam and Indonesia to expand their market share in one of the world's largest consumer markets.
Pepper price today in the country
This morning, pepper prices in key production areas in Vietnam fluctuated slightly. The purchase price fluctuated between 151,500 - 153,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, pepper prices in Dak Lak and Dak Nong both reached 153,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc both maintained the level of 152,000 VND/kg, an increase of 2,000 VND/kg.
Other localities such as Gia Lai increased by 2,000 VND/kg, reaching 151,500 VND/kg.
In contrast to the world market, domestic pepper prices are fluctuating positively and increasing sharply, reaching the highest level in the past 4 months. The purchase price ranges from 151,500 - 153,000 VND/kg. The main reason is that domestic supply is at the end of the harvest season, and the inventory of small farmers has been exhausted. Demand for purchasing to prepare for year-end festivals is also increasing, boosting domestic prices.
Vietnam’s pepper industry is facing many great opportunities. The US’s imposition of a 50% tariff on pepper imported from Brazil and India has created a superior competitive advantage for Vietnamese pepper, with a lower tariff of only 20%. This helps Vietnam’s pepper export market share to the US recover and grow strongly in the second half of 2025.
In addition, Vietnamese enterprises are actively seeking and expanding markets to Europe, Asia and the Middle East to avoid the risk of depending on only one market. Strengthening the control of chemical and pesticide residues is also a right direction to meet the strict standards of international markets.
Overall, the Vietnamese pepper industry is benefiting from a double benefit of rising domestic prices, stable export prices and strong international demand. This is a very positive signal, bringing the expectation of a successful year for both pepper growers and exporters.
