Pepper price today August 16: Continues to increase, exports to the UK increase dramatically

Vietnam's pepper exports to the Chinese market in 2025 have shown positive signs, but the results have not yet met expectations. The main reason comes from fierce price competition from Indonesian suppliers.

Vietnam’s pepper industry currently has about 200 enterprises participating in processing and exporting activities, of which the top 15 enterprises account for 70% of total exports. Notably, the whole industry has 14 deep processing factories and attracted 5 foreign-invested enterprises, which are holding nearly 30% of the country’s export market share.

The US market continues to lead the way in importing Vietnamese pepper with more than 32 thousand tons, although output decreased by 24% compared to the same period. However, export value has improved significantly when the average price increased by 60%, reaching 7,575 USD/ton. Other major markets such as Germany and India also recorded impressive growth in value from 43-68.5%, while the average price increased sharply from 48-59%.

In addition to traditional markets, some emerging markets such as South Korea and the UK are also showing strong growth potential. In particular, exports to the UK have grown remarkably with an increase of 32.2% in volume and 115% in value, demonstrating the ability to successfully penetrate demanding and high-value markets. This is a positive signal for the Vietnamese pepper industry in the context of increasingly fierce competition in the world market.

Pepper price today August 16 in the world market

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Community (IPC) has updated the prices of all types of pepper traded in the international market on August 15 (local time) as follows:

Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices decreased slightly compared to yesterday at USD 7,208/ton (down 0.33%). In addition, Muntok white pepper prices decreased slightly compared to yesterday at USD 10,076/ton (down 0.33%).

Brazilian ASTA black pepper prices were unchanged from yesterday at $5,850/tonne.

Malaysia's ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,250/ton. Meanwhile, the country's ASTA white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $12,500/ton.

Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 gr/l reached 6,240 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 6,370 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $8,950/ton.

According to the latest report from the International Pepper Community (IPC), the global pepper market in the first half of 2025 maintained significant stability in import demand. The US continued to be the world's largest import market, although it recorded a slight decrease of about 3% compared to the same period. This stability comes from a smart long-term purchasing strategy and proactively securing supply sources by US importers.

Industry experts predict that the period from Q4/2025 to Q1/2026 will witness a sharp increase in orders from the US market in preparation for the peak consumption season at the end of the year. However, this time coincides with the main harvest season in Indonesia and Brazil. This could create great pressure on supply and prices in the world market.

2025 marks the fourth consecutive year of decline in global pepper production. In Vietnam, pepper growing area continues to shrink from 115,000 hectares in 2023 to about 113,000 hectares in 2024, and is expected to decrease further to 110,000 hectares. This is much lower than the peak of 151,900 hectares in 2017. Output in 2025 is estimated at about 190,000 tons, continuing the decline compared to previous years.

Analysts say the pepper market is in an accumulation phase waiting for new supporting factors. Fluctuations in the USD exchange rate and US tax policy will play a key role in determining price trends in the coming time. In addition, reduced output in major producing countries and increased demand at the end of the year from Europe, the US and the Middle East may create momentum for a new price increase, bringing opportunities to improve profits for the entire industry.
