Export market
In the international market, Vietnam's rice export prices remain stable. 5% broken rice is at 389 USD/ton, the highest in the region, while 25% broken rice and 100% broken rice are at 368 USD/ton and 335 USD/ton, respectively.
Compared to other countries, India's 5% broken rice price is currently lower at $376/ton, Thailand's is $354/ton and Pakistan's is $353/ton.
Pressure from Indian supply
An international study says the global rice surplus will persist until 2026, driven largely by India’s huge production and stockpiles. The country is holding an all-time high of 37.9 million tonnes of rice in storage, thanks to bumper harvests and government procurement.
In March 2025, India lifted the entire ban on rice exports, causing a sharp increase in supply to the world market. India's exports this year are forecast to reach 23.5 million tons. As of the end of August, the country had exported more than 14.7 million tons, far surpassing Vietnam (6 million tons) and Thailand (4.7 million tons). With its superior output advantage, India is playing a leading role in prices, pulling the global rice price level to its lowest level in many years.
