Earlier, on the morning of July 15, Mr. Nguyen Thai Hong Phong (residing at 51 Nguyen Duong, Dien Hong ward) was exercising in front of the gate when he saw a turtle crawling into the house. The turtle had a bumpy shell with black spots on the shell, a light yellow plastron and also black spots.
Seeing that the turtle was quite beautiful and had a strange shape compared to normal turtles, Mr. Phong took a photo and searched online. Some information said that this was a golden mountain turtle - a wild animal listed in the Red Book. Therefore, he contacted the Forest Rangers to hand it over.
Through inspection, Dak Doa - Pleiku Forest Protection Department determined: This is a golden mountain turtle with the scientific name Indotestudo elongata, belonging to group IIB of the list of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals according to Decree 06/2019/ND-CP amended by Decree 84/2021/ND-CP of the Government.
It is known that Dak Doa - Pleiku Forest Protection Department has transferred the turtle to the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms (Kon Ka Kinh National Park) to conduct a health and physical examination before releasing it back into the wild.
