Germany to take tough action against anti-Semitism

On October 22, speaking at the opening of a synagogue in the city of Dessau, he affirmed that the country would “support and protect” Jewish life.

At the same time, the leader expressed shock at the spread of anti-Semitism “all over the world and shamefully also in Germany” since the October 7 attack by the Islamist Hamas movement on Israel.

He stressed that it was impossible to turn a blind eye “when Jews are not safe on the streets of Germany, when the Stars of David on houses are defaced, when synagogues are petrol bombed.”

Germany has seen a series of anti-Semitic incidents since the attacks and Israel's retaliatory bombing campaign. Several Jewish homes in Berlin were defaced with Stars of David.

Notably, last week, attackers threw two petrol bombs at a synagogue in the city.

In related news, a day earlier, Mr. Scholz had praised the first humanitarian aid shipment to the Gaza Strip.

“The good and important news is that the first humanitarian aid shipment is now being delivered to the people of Gaza,” the German chancellor wrote on social network X. He affirmed that Berlin would work “through all channels to minimize the loss of life in this conflict.”
