In recent days, Quang Tri province has been flooded with rain and floods, causing the Kien Giang River to rise and become muddy. However, the weather conditions did not affect the traditional boat racing and swimming festival in the hometown of General Vo Nguyen Giap, but instead, it was still bustling with excitement from tens of thousands of people.
Swimming and boat racing on Kien Giang River to celebrate Independence Day have been going on for decades, now deeply ingrained in the subconscious, blood and flesh, becoming a beautiful feature in the cultural life of Le Thuy people.

This year, implementing the 2-level local government model, this traditional boat racing festival was organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province in coordination with the People's Committee of Le Thuy commune with the participation of 22 male rowing boats and 9 female racing boats from villages in Le Thuy commune.

Early in the morning of September 1, it was raining heavily, but by the time the boats started, the sun had cleared. The boats were divided into two groups. After a race of more than 24km along Kien Giang River with the cheers and encouragement of tens of thousands of locals and tourists, the festival was a great success, demonstrating the martial spirit of the local people.

In the end, the Organizing Committee awarded prizes to the teams with high achievements in the men's and women's swimming categories.
According to the representative of Le Thuy commune, although the way the festival was organized this year has changed and the weather is not favorable, above all, the martial spirit, the joy and the great support of the people, the traditional swimming and boat racing festival on Kien Giang river this year was a great success and safe. Next year, the festival is expected to be expanded to attract more swimming and racing teams from other units in the province.
