At the scene, the black, opaque wastewater with white scum from the sewer overflowed directly onto My Khe beach – one of the city’s famous beaches. Many tourists who were walking around had to quickly leave the area because of the strong stench and concerns about pollution.

According to local residents, after a light rain in the early morning, wastewater and household waste continued to overflow into the sea from the urban drainage system.
Ms. Ho Thi Tram (Ngu Hanh Son ward, Da Nang city) said that the situation of wastewater flowing directly into the sea from sewers has happened many times, especially after heavy rains, but has not been treated yet.
My Khe Beach is one of the famous and beautiful beaches, welcoming hundreds of visitors every day to swim, walk and do activities. However, the situation of dirty wastewater regularly flowing into the sea makes many tourists afraid, potentially affecting their health and the environment.

Immediately after the report, Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company sent workers to the scene to treat the odor, collect garbage and implement temporary measures to minimize pollution.
Speaking to reporters, a company representative said the city has a project to separate rainwater and wastewater, but the project is not yet completed and has not been handed over for operation. Therefore, when heavy rain occurs, water in the common drainage system still overflows.
"Currently, the company is still implementing treatment plans according to the spill discharge scenario approved by the city. When heavy rain occurs, workers will be mobilized to treat odors and collect waste. After the rain stops, we will continue to rebuild the temporary sand dam to prevent wastewater from flowing into the sea," said a representative of the Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company.
