Reading books in the digital age

In the era of technology 4.0, reading is no longer limited by space and time. With the strong development of digital devices and reading and listening applications, each person's journey to knowledge has become more flexible, convenient and personalized than ever.

In the wave of technology, books are an effective solution to help the elderly access knowledge without having to read each line on the page. No longer limited by vision, many elderly people have used audiobooks, which are both convenient and familiar, helping them maintain the habit of reading in their own way.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tien, 69 years old, residing in Lao Cai ward is one of them. She has loved reading for a long time, but as she gets older, her eyesight gradually gets worse, making it difficult to turn the pages. Instead of giving up her reading habit, she found a solution to listen to audiobooks via a phone application.

“I use audiobooks regularly, every day. When I’m getting ready for bed, doing housework, or even walking, I can still listen to books and absorb knowledge. Thanks to that, I don’t have to give up my passion for reading,” Ms. Tien shared.

In the past, searching for a specialized book or research document required readers to go to the library and flip through each shelf, but now, with just a few taps on a smartphone, the library's treasure trove is right in front of them. The strong transformation in digital transformation at Lao Cai Provincial Library is creating a big step forward, bringing knowledge closer to the people, especially the younger generation.

Le Hoang Mai, a student at Cam Duong High School, shared her experience: “Reading books through the digital library platform helps me access a huge collection of documents. I can look up books and reference materials right on my phone to serve my studies, very convenient and effective.”

Behind that convenience is the persistent effort of the library staff in modernizing traditional libraries.

Mr. Lin Thanh Tuan, an officer of Lao Cai Provincial Library, said: “In recent years, we have promoted the construction of a digital library database, with more than 35,000 pages of documents digitized each year. This not only serves online research but is also a way to preserve and conserve valuable local documents.”

This innovation creates a new step forward in the way Lao Cai people receive knowledge, while contributing to the development of reading culture, which is one of the important foundations of a modern learning society.

In fact, although the approach has changed, the spirit and value of reading has not changed. Whether it is a paper book or a digital book, it is still the universal key that opens the world of knowledge, helping people enrich their thinking, broaden their vision and nurture a rich spiritual life.

Reading in the 4.0 era is not only a personal activity but also a manifestation of flexible adaptation to technology. Therefore, it requires each person to know how to select, manage information and form a habit of selective reading among the sea of multidimensional information.

In modern life, maintaining the habit of reading in any form is a way to keep a quiet space for yourself, a private space to reflect and develop. The important thing is that each person finds a way of reading that suits their conditions and interests, from which the culture of reading is not only preserved but also continues to spread in the community.
