On the evening of July 22, the Vietnam U23 team won 2-1 against Cambodia U23, thereby gaining all 6 points after two matches and advancing to the semi-finals of the Southeast Asian U23 Championship as the top team in Group B.
In the first 15 minutes of the match, U23 Vietnam controlled the game but could not get close to U23 Cambodia's goal. Long-range shots by Van Truong and Quoc Viet did not cause any "damage" to their Cambodian opponents.
In the 20th minute, center back Ly Duc put the ball into the Cambodian net but the referee did not recognize the goal due to offside.
In a match where U23 Cambodia played good pressing and limited short passing situations, U23 Vietnam found the opening goal from a set piece situation.
In the 35th minute, Khuat Van Khang took a corner kick and sent the ball towards the far post. Center back Ly Duc once again chose the right position and headed the ball into the net of U23 Cambodia, "opening the score" for coach Kim Sang-sik's team.

At the end of the first half, U23 Vietnam had a chance to double the gap when Quoc Viet crossed the ball for Khuat Van Khang to head close to the goal, however goalkeeper Reth Ly Heng made an excellent save for U23 Cambodia.
In the second half, U23 Cambodia increased the pressure in search of an equalizer. From a corner kick on the left wing, Vann Vit headed the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Trung Kien, but midfielder Vo Anh Quan promptly covered and cleared the ball right on the goal line.
The pressure that U23 Cambodia created was materialized into a goal in the 63rd minute, when substitute Mon Rado jumped high to head the ball to equalize 1-1 for coach Gyotoku Koji's team.
Conceding a goal, coach Kim Sang-sik decided to put Dinh Bac, Thanh Dat and Cong Phuong on the field to seek victory and this change was effective.
In the 83rd minute, Thanh Dat crossed the ball for Dinh Bac to jump high and head the ball into the far corner, leaving goalkeeper Reth Ly Heng helpless, sealing a 2-1 victory for the "Golden Star Warriors."
Winning all 6 points after two matches, coach Kim Sang-sik's team advanced to the semi-finals of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship as the top team in Group B.
The two semi-final matches will take place on July 25. According to the bracket, U23 Vietnam will face U23 Philippines, while U23 Indonesia will play U23 Thailand./.
