What signs warn that the body is suffering from chronic inflammation?

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên30/12/2024

Inflammation is the immune system's natural response to infection or injury. Prolonged inflammation can have many negative effects on health.

There are two types of inflammation: acute and chronic. Acute inflammation appears quickly, lasting only a few hours to a few days. Meanwhile, chronic inflammation lasts for weeks to years, and is associated with chronic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, cirrhosis, and ulcerative colitis, according to the health website Healthline (USA).

Chronic fatigue may be a sign of chronic inflammation

Any injury or infection in the body will trigger an immune response and cause inflammation. However, the inflammatory response will gradually decrease. If the inflammation does not go away after 3 months, it is called chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation can occur locally or systemically.

Common symptoms of chronic inflammation

When we have inflammation, we feel tired, have headaches, and have difficulty concentrating. This is when the body is fighting an injury or infection. If these symptoms persist or recur repeatedly, it is likely that we have chronic inflammation.

Other common symptoms of chronic inflammation include fever, night sweats, unexplained weight gain or loss, skin problems, and joint or muscle pain. Another common symptom is recurring digestive problems, such as constipation, diarrhea, or acid reflux.

Being susceptible to minor illnesses is also a warning sign of chronic inflammation. The reason is that prolonged inflammation makes the immune system no longer strong enough to fight other common infections.

Studies show that chronic inflammation increases the risk of a host of health problems, including coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's, kidney disease, and several other health problems.

To reduce chronic inflammation, one of the first things to do is to reduce your intake of processed foods, foods high in white starch and unhealthy fats. Instead, people should prioritize eating fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains such as brown rice, oats, quinoa. In addition, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising and good oral hygiene can also help reduce chronic inflammation, according to Healthline .
