Leaders of Thai Nguyen Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited inspect the safety of Dong Cau Lake, Van Lang Commune. |
The province currently has about 470 irrigation reservoirs, with a total capacity of over 200 million cubic millimeters, serving agricultural and industrial production and people's lives. Of these, Thai Nguyen Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited manages and operates 104 reservoirs; Bac Kan Irrigation Works Exploitation Management Company Limited manages 35 reservoirs; the rest are directly managed by localities.
To ensure the safety of reservoirs, especially during the flood season, management units have established a systematic operating system, from maintenance procedures to installing monitoring and warning equipment, developing flood discharge plans and arranging warning systems for downstream areas.
Mr. Be Ngoc Hung, Director of Bac Kan Irrigation Works Management and Exploitation Company Limited, said: Currently, the lakes and dams managed by the unit have not had any incidents during operation. However, some lakes have experienced dam body leakage, the unit has proactively implemented remedial measures to ensure safety and regulate enough water for production for the people.
In addition to the dam system, the province currently has 7 dike routes, with a total length of nearly 50km. To ensure safety, management units have prepared human resources, materials, and equipment for dike protection work, promptly handling incidents from the beginning according to the "four on-site" motto. At the same time, they regularly organize patrols and inspections of the dike and irrigation systems, especially the opening/closing of sluices under the dikes, the operation of drainage sluices and drainage pumping stations.
Mr. Ma Van Truong, acting head of Ha Chau Dike Management Department, said: The unit has proactively coordinated with local authorities to prepare facilities and means, ready to respond when heavy rain and floods occur.
In the context of climate change and increasingly complex and unpredictable natural disasters, ensuring the safety of dams and irrigation works is an important and urgent task. Along with reviewing and repairing damaged dams and reservoirs, the agricultural sector is focusing on strengthening supervision and closely monitoring the development of floods and rains, thereby reasonably regulating the amount of water in the reservoirs, ensuring the safety of irrigation works.
