South Korean Embassy in Japan Receives Bomb Threat

Báo Hải DươngBáo Hải Dương17/08/2023

The letter, sent by “Soma Wataru” last week and written in Korean using an automated translation, contained a bomb threat. However, the sender did not specify the exact date and time of the explosion.

The South Korean Embassy in Japan said local police decided to increase security around the building after informing authorities about the bomb threat.

The South Korean embassy is looking into the possibility that the letter is a false threat, but said it has asked Japanese police to step up security for about a month.

In recent weeks, police in the South Korean capital Seoul have also been investigating reports of a series of bomb threats. On August 7, several city government officials received an email threatening to detonate a bomb in the city center. Two days later, police said they received a report of another email threatening to blow up the National Museum of Korea, the Japanese Embassy, N Seoul Tower and a Japanese school. On August 13, an email sent to several media outlets said a powerful bomb had been planted in Seoul City Hall.
