Speaking to the press, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that after the bidding process, the price negotiation of HIV drugs has ensured supply.

It is expected that this Wednesday, ARV drugs for treating HIV patients will be transferred and distributed to localities. In addition, the Ministry has also signed an agreement with the World Health Organization and other supporting organizations to support the supply of ARV drugs, ensuring the supply of drugs for patients.

According to the Ministry of Health's leadership, the supply disruption is due to issues related to bidding regulations under the new law.

Previously, according to Tuoi Tre, over the past month, many HIV patients have been worried that they will not have ARV drugs covered by health insurance. Accordingly, many HIV patients with stable treatment, instead of receiving enough ARV drugs to last three months, only receive drugs for one month, or even two weeks.

Some provinces and cities have reported disruptions in health insurance drugs and difficulties in purchasing ARV drugs to treat people with HIV. The disruption in supply puts many patients at risk of disease progression.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, there are about 249,000 people infected with HIV nationwide. One of the worrying points is that the rate of HIV infection is getting younger. People infected with HIV in the 16-29 age group increased from 37.2% in 2019 to 48.7% in 2022. In the first 9 months of 2023, 47.3% of people infected were in this age group.
