Former Uvalde, Texas police chief charged in school shooting

Mr. Arredondo was arrested and charged with 10 counts of child endangerment.

Hundreds of police officers have been criticized for failing to respond to the shooting on May 24, 2022. Officers left the 18-year-old gunman alone in a classroom with children for more than an hour before deciding to confront him.

When officers stormed in, the school had become the scene of one of the deadliest shootings in US history.

Another police officer, Adrian Gonzales, was also indicted by a grand jury. Gonzales has not been arrested and no other details about him are available.

Federal and state investigations into the shooting have criticized police inaction. In May, the victims’ families filed a lawsuit against Meta, Activision Blizzard, Microsoft, and gun manufacturer Daniel Defense, alleging they facilitated the marketing of firearms to young people.

In this bloody school shooting, 19 children and two teachers were killed on May 24, 2022, when an 18-year-old gunman armed with a rifle manufactured by Daniel Defense stormed Robb Elementary School.

The gun death rate among American teenagers is 11 times higher than in France, 36 times higher than in Germany, and 121 times higher than in Japan.
