AI technology builds shields to protect online markets

E-commerce is booming, online shopping has become a habit of millions of Vietnamese people. But besides the convenience, a burning problem is also becoming more and more sophisticated: counterfeit goods are flooding digital stores. In the first half of 2025 alone, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy had to remove more than 33,000 products and handle more than 11,000 violating stores. The Ministry of Industry and Trade held a conference to collect opinions on the draft Law on E-commerce at the end of June 2025. The Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy said that the Draft Law on E-commerce has been approved by the Government Standing Committee and will introduce many new regulations to protect consumers and improve management efficiency such as: identifying sellers; enhancing the responsibility of e-commerce platforms; cross-border e-commerce platform management. The Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy is synchronously deploying many groups of solutions to increase the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology to trace the origin of goods to prevent counterfeit goods, fake goods and intellectual property violations in the digital environment. The fight against counterfeit goods on e-commerce platforms still has many challenges. However, with the participation of management agencies, the consensus of legitimate businesses and the caution of each consumer, we can completely hope for a safer and more transparent digital market in the future.
