Merging provinces expands space and room for economic development
From July 1, Quang Ngai province (new) has a natural area of nearly 15,000 km2, population of more than 2.1 million people.
In her acceptance speech at the Conference announcing the Central Government's decisions to merge Quang Ngai Province (old) and Kon Tum Province (old) on June 30, Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee Bui Thi Quynh Van affirmed that in terms of geography and nature, Quang Ngai and Kon Tum are "mountains and rivers connected in one strip", and in terms of geography and politics, they are "brothers with a common destiny".
Throughout the history of the nation, the army and people of the two provinces have a tradition of solidarity, unanimity, ardent patriotism, heroism, and indomitability in the revolutionary struggle, together with the army and people of the whole country, writing the heroic history of the Vietnamese nation.
Quang Ngai - Kon Tum is proud to be the place where the revolutionary spirit of many ancestors shines brightly. The people here are brave, resilient, hard-working, compassionate, righteous and creative.
The new Quang Ngai province combines the strengths of Quang Ngai province (old) and Kon Tum province (old) into a unified entity.
Two provinces with two distinct features will converge into a unified whole, blending to promote strengths, support and compensate for limitations.
No longer limited by the old administrative boundaries, a unified development space will be formed, where the potentials and advantages of each locality are integrated, complemented and spread to each other, creating a strong and sustainable development driving force.
Economically, the merger of Kon Tum province (old) and Quang Ngai province (old) created a rich "raw material strip" for industrial development.
If in the past, Quang Ngai was known for its strengths in heavy industry, petrochemical refining and energy , now it has added great potential in agricultural and forestry processing industry.

Industrial achievements lay the foundation for a new stage
According to the Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Parks , up to now, the whole province has attracted nearly 450 valid projects with a total registered capital of more than 19 billion USD, including billion-dollar projects such as Dung Quat Oil Refinery, Hoa Phat Iron and Steel Complex, Doosan Vina Heavy Industry Factory, and combined gas turbine power projects of EVN and Sembcorp .
Along with heavy industry, the province has established more than 20 industrial clusters, creating jobs for thousands of local workers . This is the nucleus for the small and medium-sized agricultural, forestry and consumer goods processing industry, evenly distributed in the communes, especially in the Western region.
The political report of the 1st Congress of Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee, term 2025 - 2030, affirmed that industry makes a great contribution to the economic development of the province. The industrial production value in 2025 is estimated at 185,401 billion VND, an average increase of 10.72%/year. The industrial structure is shifting according to the set orientation.
The processing and manufacturing industry plays a key role and is a bright spot in the province's industrial development. The locality has focused on developing a number of advantageous industries.
The agricultural, forestry and fishery processing industry has received investment attention with the participation of many economic sectors; some products have gradually penetrated and been accepted in international markets with high standards, especially products from Ngoc Linh ginseng and medicinal herbs.
The metallurgical industry contributes greatly to the economic development of Quang Ngai.
Dung Quat Economic Zone, Bo Y International Border Gate Economic Zone and industrial parks and industrial clusters have received attention and attracted investment. The policy of building a national oil refinery and energy center in Dung Quat Economic Zone has been actively implemented.
Pay attention to and create favorable conditions to support investors to accelerate the implementation of large-scale projects with spillover effects, promoting the socio-economic development of the province such as: Dung Quat Oil Refinery Upgrading and Expansion Project; Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Iron and Steel Complex and Dung Quat I, Dung Quat II, Dung Quat III Combined Gas Turbine Power Plant projects, and a number of other energy projects.
New driving force - industrial advantage connecting from forest to sea
In addition to inheriting industrial achievements, with the formation of the new Quang Ngai province, the space and advantages for industrial development of Quang Ngai province are expanded many times with a new growth driver: Forest - sea advantages.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Man, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Ngai province, the old Quang Ngai province has Dung Quat Economic Zone, one of the country's key coastal economic zones, with key products being refining, petrochemicals, heavy industry, processed food, consumer goods and processing industry.
Kon Tum province (old) has advantages in agricultural and forestry raw materials, medicinal materials (Ngoc Linh ginseng, coffee, rubber, raw wood, cassava...) .
Therefore, promoting the "forest - sea" advantage is considered a new growth driver to help Quang Ngai industry not only rely on heavy industry but also have an additional pillar of agricultural processing, creating a more sustainable economic growth foundation.
Combining the advantages of forest and sea has created a new growth momentum for Quang Ngai province in the coming time.
From the perspective of regional connectivity, strategic transport routes such as the North-South Expressway, Quang Ngai-Kon Tum Expressway, National Highway 24, together with Dung Quat deep-water port and Chu Lai airport (Quang Nam) will form a seamless “industrial corridor”. Raw material areas in the old Kon Tum plateau can be quickly transported to seaports for processing and export.
