Carrying you to school for 10 years

VnExpressVnExpress11/06/2023

China's Zhu Jinxiang carried his disabled village friend to school since third grade and now they are both taking the university entrance exam together.

Zhu Jinxiang and Zhong Huaqiang are two special candidates for this year's college entrance exam (gaokao).

Zhong was born into a poor family in Ganzhou City with cerebral palsy. The disease later caused a curvature of the spine and prevented him from walking straight. Wanting to help him go to school, Zhu and his friends in the village took turns carrying Zhong to school, starting when they were in third grade.

With Zhu's company, Zhong studied very well. Both of them later achieved excellent results in the high school entrance exam and were admitted to the city's key schools. The pair continued to study in the same class and sit at the same desk.

Throughout high school, Zhu was Zhong’s legs, taking him wherever he needed to go. Zhu carried Zhong on his back to the classroom, playground, bathroom, and other places in the school. He also helped him fetch water and organize his personal belongings. The two talked and did homework together every day.

"At first, I just tried to show my strength by carrying him. But then I realized that whenever I was happy or sad, Zhong would encourage me. As time passed, we became good friends, sharing everything together," Zhu said.

Due to his illness, Zhong has to squat on a chair to study. According to Zhu, despite his poor health, Zhong is an optimistic person with a good sense of humor and a strong will, which he admires. The student hopes that they will continue to study at the same school when they go to university.

"I hope we will be admitted to the same school. I am willing to continue to be her legs," Zhu said.
