By 2024, Vietnam will achieve a 99% vaccination rate for the first dose of diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (80% in 2023). The number of children who have not received any dose of vaccine, also known as the "0 dose" group, will decrease from 274,000 in 2023 to 13,000 in 2024. Nearly 1.3 million children will be vaccinated during the 2024-2025 measles vaccination campaign.

Vietnam also recorded a 32% increase in the rate of children receiving three doses of diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccines, reaching 97% in 2024, up from 65% the previous year. In addition, the rate of receiving the first dose of measles vaccine also increased from 82% in 2023 to 98% in 2024.
However, WHO also pointed out some challenges in vaccination work in Vietnam: 40,000 children have not received the third dose of diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough vaccine; and 27,000 children have not received the first dose of measles vaccine.
Children remain unvaccinated or under-vaccinated for many reasons, including geographical barriers, limited access to services in remote areas or areas lacking essential services.
To address the challenges, according to WHO, the Government should encourage private health care services to participate in routine immunization (vaccines provided by the Government , free of charge in the expanded immunization program). Local authorities should be supported to implement appropriate immunization strategies to reach the most vulnerable population groups.
