At 8:00 p.m. one day in late November, on her way home from work, passing the post office in Hikone city, Shiga province, Japan, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuc (from Dau Tieng, Binh Duong) took the opportunity to send money back to Vietnam.

She said that after 5 months in Japan, she saved money every month to send back to her mother for medical treatment. Every time, Ms. Phuc recorded a clip and posted it on her personal tiktok channel as motivation to try harder in a foreign country.

Vietnamese girl shares the reason why low salary still keeps her in Japan

"The day I sent money and posted the clip was November 27. I didn't expect that the clip would be supported by everyone. Since I came to Japan, I have sent money home every month for my mother's medical treatment. During this time, I was lucky that I came here to work so I have money to give to my mother. If I had worked as a factory worker in my hometown, I would have cried," Ms. Phuc confided.

Phuc and her husband are currently interns at a plastic molding company in Hikone City. Before coming to Japan, Phuc had worked for many years as a factory worker near her home. Because her income was just enough to live on and she also wanted to reunite with her husband, she decided to study Japanese to go to Japan to work.

In Japan, although Ms. Phuc's company does not work overtime, the job is very stable. Every day, she works 8-10 hours and then goes home early to cook, while her husband stays to work overtime. The salary Ms. Phuc has received in recent months is 15 man (about 23 million VND).

"When I shared my story on social media, many people said that with such a low salary, it's better to stay in Vietnam and work in an office with a monthly salary of 10 million VND, and live near my parents.

Only those in my situation would understand that if I had a proper education and an office job with a monthly salary of 10 million, I would not have gone to work. My family's circumstances were difficult, and we had no money, so after finishing 9th grade, I had to drop out of school to give my younger brother a chance to go to school," said Ms. Phuc.

Without a degree, Ms. Phuc had no choice but to work as a factory worker. However, in recent years, the business has been in trouble, her income is just enough to live on, and when her parents are sick, she has no one to rely on. In fact, in Japan, she also worked as a factory worker but the salary is twice as high. That is the reason she chose to go abroad.

Currently, after deducting all expenses for food, shopping, insurance... Ms. Phuc still has 19-20 million VND left each month. She boasted that after 4 months of working in Japan, she was able to give her mother 100 million VND for medical treatment.

"Many people say that the income in Japan is a few million higher than in Vietnam, but you have to be away from your family, but I think that a few million may be small for everyone, but for me, that's enough for my mother to take medicine for half a year.

After a week in Japan, my mother had a mild stroke. At that time, I thought, even though I live nearby, when my parents need help, with an income of 8 million VND/month, what can I do to help them other than shed tears?

Working at home all year, if I can save 20 million VND, I'm happy, where can I get 40-50 million VND at once to take my mother to the hospital? I don't have an education, so I have to find a way to change my life. For me, living near my parents but not being able to take care of anything, I'd rather live far away, if other families buy my parents something delicious, I can buy it too," Ms. Phuc confided.

In recent days, the Japanese yen has increased sharply, making Ms. Phuc and many Vietnamese workers in Japan extremely happy. The past period was difficult because the Japanese yen was low, but even so, with the money she earned abroad, she was still able to take care of her parents more than when she was in Vietnam.

"When man prices were low, I still sent money back. Now that man prices have increased, I can send more money back. Every extra penny I earn helps my parents have less trouble.

Even though we live in a foreign land, far away from our parents, my husband and I no longer have to work as hard as before. Working 8 hours a day, we not only have enough to eat but also have some savings left over," said Ms. Phuc.
